Friends –

I love our federal lands. For so many reasons including wild and domesticated animals. I feel quite guilty that one of those is this sweet bovine featured in my painting, "Moo 585". Quietly and without moving, we checked each other out for more than a few moments on the Manti La Sal mountains when I met her a few days ago.

It's pretty clear that grazing on public lands has often been mismanaged and that the damage they have caused to streams and sensitive areas is real. Real and often irreversible.

But they are so dang cute. That is the problem I have.

I guess I will make up for that by sending the sale of this painting to a worthwhile land management agency. Then I can continue to enjoy her – just a little bit more.
