Just Another PR

Just Another PR

Friends –

Anybody who has ever run competitively knows that there is no such thing as “just another PR”. That painting title implies simplicity and effortlessness that is non-existent when it comes to fast-paced rushing to break a record. To do something like that, it takes a lot of understanding your personal body signals, having the skill to gauge your pace and knowing when to push that last amount of energy out for the last stretch. Often it can hurt. The key to longevity in running is knowing how to keep it fun, in my view.

My first-born grandkid, Benjamin, has broken at least three of his own track personal records this season and I felt that needed to be acknowledged in this painting. When I watch him complete that last stretch of a 1500meter (for example) together with the lead pack, I am astonished at the power these middle school kids have. From the outside it is impossible to tell what signals their bodies are giving them, what calculations they are making to gauge their pace and how much energy they may still have in reserve as they round that last bend. They just go FAST.

With all that, success must feel so good, and certainly fun. Especially when you win, as has Benjamin.

“Just Another PR” is not for sale, but I’ll get back to my Donation Art soon.
