My Hummer
This little hummer is not the gas-guzzling,
macho-hormone-inducing kind. Rather, it is a
tribute to another symbol of environmentally
stability, the hummingbirds. These little speedsters
are common in many varieties in many parts of
the world, but I consider them to be a very special
little creation. I used to see them zooming around
the flowers on occasion when I was growing up,
and sometimes whirring in mid-air position as
they fed from some flower. But it was not until
I reached middle-age here in Placerville that
I actually saw one sitting still on a slender
branch for the first time ever. Now I see that
more often, and maybe it is just because I have
a hummingbird feeder, and am taking more time,
and paying more attention to the details around
me.
My Hummer is about 12 inches tall, uses a bottle
gourd, pyrography, leather dye, and acrylic paint.
As usual the money for this gourd will go to
UNICEF, or M.O.R.E. I am also open to having
to a different non-profit that you desire, as
long as it is for a good cause such as human
rights, environmental protection, or public health.
