Delicate

Delicate

Friends -
There are over 2,000 arches in Arches National Park, but the most famous one by far is this one.  Delicate Arch.  You can see Delicate Arch at a distance from a Park road, or you can get right up next to it by following a short (1.5 mile) hike.  Because it is so famous and has been photographed, drawn, sculpted and painted uncountable times, I never considered painting it.  I can't help it.  It's the non-conformist in me.

However, once I saw the amazing photograph taken by a new friend of mine from Colorado - Rick Schafer - I knew I had to do it. Rick took this picture at dusk on Christmas Day with nobody else around to tromp in the snow and upset the solitude.  That solitude is one of best things around those parts, and it is easiest to find in the winter.

He is generous enough to let me use the photograph, and I was able to complete the painting in 3 days.  That is a record for me; three months is more usual.  But now I am trying some new techniques I learned this year.  I am liking how it is working, so I will probably do more of that.

The original is 18"x36", and there is only one original, of course.  But I could have prints made in smaller sizes, if you wish one.  As usual, it can be had for a donation to a worthwhile non-profit organization of your choice.  If you don't have one, I have some favorites myself that I will recommend.

I hope you enjoy this painting and also hope that it will encourage you to come visit us in Moab.  We will take you there..
