Friends -
This one is an oil painting! I started this last
winter, but these things seem to take me some
time. This one I found especially challenging
because of the fact that slot canyons in the
Southwest can be unbelievable in their complexity
and fantastical contours. Painting the feel
of being there can be tricky. But I find these
places so peaceful, cool and beautiful that
I wanted to do this. I especially love the
sweet, cascading song of the canyon wren when
we go out hiking in Southern Utah canyons.
Often you can hear them, but can't see them.
This may be the case with this painting as
well, so I am providing the Wren detail.
This is an actual location near Boulder, Utah.
Bob and I hiked this one in October 2008, and
it is one of thousands of places in the vicinity
that, with a pair of hiking boots, you can visit
and forget your worries.
I will have prints of this made for sale in the
fall Placerville Art Association Studio Tour
(last weekend in September, first in October).
The original is nfs.
Enjoy the peace.
